Kids’ Duet - Maadu meikkum kanne - Sridevi Nrithyalaya - Bharathanatyam ...

8 year old Arshita Murugadoss and 6 year old Maya Swaminathan enacts Yashoda & Krishna in the popular song "Maadu Meikkum Kanne..."

https://youtu.be/fl-J4qyQfC0

This song is an engaging dialogue between child Krishna and Yashoda.

As Krishna excitedly asks his mother if he could go and tend to the cattle, Yashoda denies him permission. She offers him butter, milk and sugar coated sweets and asks him not to go out in the scorching heat.

However, Krishna rejects all her offers and instead tells her that he will happily tend to the cows and come back home in a jiffy.

Then, mother Yashoda tries to convince him saying that there are wild animals in the mountains which might scare him when he goes there with his cows. Krishna smartly replies that the animals will approach him fondly and assures his mother that he will hunt them down if they come in large numbers to attack him.

As Yashoda gives him more and more reasons to not go out, Krishna cooks up intelligent replies to all that. Finally, child Krishna manages to convince his mother that he will safely go with his herd of cows and come back home quickly.

Maadu Meikkum Kanne... beautifully sung by Sri Srikanth Gopalakrishnan & Choreographed by Dr. Sheela Unnikrishnan.

Talam - Tisra Nata Adi

Alan watts on Lao Tzu and the Tao Te Ching

Tao Te Ching is a Chinese classic text written around 400 BC and traditionally credited to the sage Laozi.

The text's authorship, date of composition and date of compilation are debated.

The oldest excavated portion dates back to the late 4th century BC, but modern scholarship dates other parts of the text as having been written—or at least compiled—later than the earliest portions of the Zhuangzi.

The Role of Spiritual Practice in the Modern World

The Role of Spiritual Practice in the Modern World

Google Tech Talks
April 5, 2007

ABSTRACT

For the past 50 years, people have begun to recognize that advanced technology and material abundance do not provide meaning in their lives.

This talk discusses how spiritual practice provides the balance needed to live a life of understanding and harmony.

Before retiring from the corporate, high-tech world in 1990, Les Kaye worked at IBM for over 30 years, as an engineer, salesman, manager, and software developer.

In the mid-sixties, while working and raising a family, he started to practice
Zen Buddhism.

He was ordained as a Zen monk in 1970 and was recognized as a Zen teacher in 1986.

Today he is the abbot of the Kannon Do Zen Center in Mountain View, CA

Why Study Buddhism? | Robert Thurman

Why Study Buddhism? | Robert Thurman

As someone with half a century of experience behind him, Professor Robert Thurman knows a thing or two about studying Buddhism. Discussing what he calls the "Three Higher Educations," Professor Thurman argues that learning about our mind, how it works, and what reality truly is, is the way to happiness and peace. ___________________

Look to this day by Kalidasa

Look to this day

by Kalidasa

Look to this day:
For it is life, the very life of life.
In its brief course
Lie all the verities and realities of your existence.
The bliss of growth,
The glory of action,
The splendour of achievement
Are but experiences of time.

For yesterday is but a dream
And tomorrow is only a vision;
And today well-lived, makes
Yesterday a dream of happiness
And every tomorrow a vision of hope.
Look well therefore to this day;
Such is the salutation to the ever-new dawn!

Simone de Beauvoir on Existentialism & God (1959)

https://youtu.be/tJnWHVwvYSQ

A version of a video from the old channel. This comes from a 1959 interview with Wilfrid Lemoyne from Radio-Canada. The translation is my mine. More Short Clips: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list...

Existentialists take human existence and the human condition to be a fundamental issue. They tend to be radical individualists who privilege our lived experience and choice. They focus on themes such as: freedom, authenticity, the individual, meaning, anxiety, alienation, death, dread, the absurd, contingency, and nihilism. They often are also suspicious of any fixed, pre-determined human nature, objective/universal values, and abstract philosophical systems. Some of the most important existentialist thinkers (or at least thinkers associated with existentialism) include Jean-Paul Sartre, Martin Heidegger, Søren Kierkegaard, Simone de Beauvoir, Friedrich Nietzsche, Dostoyevsky, Albert Camus, and Karl Jaspers. Affirmation of Life

Affirmation of life is the spiritual act
by which man ceases to live thoughtlessly and
begins to devote himself to his life
with reverence in order to give it true value.
